Volunteers Enrich Our Community
THE REWARDS OF REACHING OUT ARE MANY.
At San Francisco Village, we have more than 165 non-member volunteers who are eager to respond to a member's request for help. A multi-generational group of kind-hearted, civic-minded individuals, our volunteer corps includes local high school and college students, working professionals and retirees, ranging in age from 16 to 75.
We screen volunteers with in-depth reference checks, as well as background checks through Intellicorps, a national database for criminal records. All volunteers are also required to attend a basic three-hour training session, and volunteer drivers must have proof of insurance, as well as clean DMV records.
Common volunteer activities include:
- Driving to/from a medical appointment or the grocery store, for example
- Technology assistance
- Personal service assistance such as shopping, light cleaning, laundry
- Companionship for movies, concerts, friendly callers and visitors, etc.

A DAY OF SERVICE
Arrange a Day of Service with your friends, co-workers or family members. SF Village staff will help you coordinate a Day of Service where your group can volunteer to help members cross a few things off of their pesky to-do lists. You'll help with chores like flipping mattresses, climbing ladders to change light bulbs, pruning gardens, dusting bookshelves, doing laundry and providing basic technology training. This is a great opportunity to help someone in need while meeting new people.
